Anneka Herrera

Hello! I’m Anneka. I’m a supervisor for the GI Barr crew. I started detasseling for S&J when I was 12. I fell in love with the fields and getting up early to watch the sunrise. I feel that detasseling is an educational and beneficial job for young ones, I really enjoy teaching and seeing the amazing work ethic it instills. When I’m not in the corn, I enjoy being a mom (I love that my boys can work with me on the Barr crew!) and decorating cakes at my family’s bakery!

Cami Harbour

Hi, my name is Cami. I’m a supervisor and bus driver for the Barr crew. I started detasseling at a young age but then moved away. When I had kids of my own, I was excited to see them enjoy the same experience I did!! So my oldest and I joined the ranks! Now as each of my kids gets old enough, they look forward to detasseling with us. I lose the experience of being able to work with them and so many other motivated young ones. During the rest of the year, we try to travel as much as possible. My husband does construction, so I also enjoy learning the trade from him. These skills have come in handy a time or two.

Mr. McCartney

Hey! I’m James McCartney and I’m a supervisor for the Barr Crew as well as a Business Teacher at Barr Middle School. I moved to Nebraska two years ago from the wheat state so I’m learning a lot about corn this summer! My wife and I live in Aurora with our three kids and our oldest was able to start detasseling this summer. I am looking forward to working with many of my students from the classroom to the fields and building new relationships.
